Passion to Purpose
My passion for real estate began as a 7 year old child cutting grass at our new home in Woodlea Lakes. What started as a determined effort to crank and push a lawnmower up a hill was cultivated into a desire to have the best yard in the neighborhood. I remember how determined I was to see the sign, “Yard of the Month” staked in our front yard, so each week I carefully aligned the wheels of the mower to ensure the lines were straight, followed by a razor sharp edge on the curb and around the trees. I also pulled the weeds from the pebble stoned flower bed after cutting each shrub with precision. But it wasn’t complete until I swept each blade of grass into a pile, and into a trash bag for the weekly pick up. We never won the award, but I never stopped trying.
I carried that same pride and determination years later when I grew from a kid who cuts the grass, to a young landlord that owns it. After buying a distressed home in Southeast Greensboro, I witnessed the interest from neighbors during the rehab. They stood outside daily and watched as numerous contractors worked diligently to convert an eye sore into a neighborhood gem. Once a home to vagrants, now this property stood as a symbol of hope for neighborhood redevelopment.

That’s when I began to ask the question, WHY? Why are homes like these common place in urban communities? And why aren’t we doing something about it? Why are the property values so low in East Greensboro? WHY? WHY? WHY? Until finally, I decided to STOP asking the question WHY, and to START doing something about it.
So in 2020, I decided to do just that. I didn’t wait for permission or credentials. Nor did I enroll at a local university for formal training. I simply followed my heart to address a need. To fill a void. I decided to fix a problem that no one else would. And that’s why I started Building Blox, LLC. To reshape our communities one block at a time. But I’m not on this journey alone. Coincidentally, I’ve met dozens of people that have asked the same questions, and have the same desires. People of various backgrounds, ethnicities, races, and genders. And together, we’re building a team! We’re Building Blox that will change our communities for the better. This is bigger than me. In fact, it’s bigger than the company. Because it’s not who we are, it’s what we do!
